Whats' new

Greetings,

We have a few new veggies this week. The carrots are the vole-approved ones from the hoop house. They were so approved by those animals that there aren’t many left and this is a one-off event, until the field carrots are ready next month. These carrots will tend to be baby/small sized. And it’s the last of the vole-approved scallions in the hoop house this week. More from the field are on the way.

We also have some tomatoes ripening in the greenhouse. The variety is Bigdena. They’re grown in composted soil like in the field, but started in early March and kept warm and coddled while the cold winds blow. Their price reflects this special treatment which allows us to start having tomatoes long before the field ones are ready.

Regarding squash – We’re beginning to get some squash, but it’s production can be very unpredictable due to the temperature and type of squash. Like this morning is in the sixties and rainy, instead of sunny and 80, which makes a big difference in the rate of growth.

SO, IF YOU ORDER SQUASH WE’LL TRY TO GIVE YOU THE VARIETY YOU WANT, BUT WILL SUBSTITUTE ANOTHER IF WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH OF YOUR FIRST CHOICE. For example, if you order 5 lbs. of zucchini and we only have enough to give you two pounds, we’ll make up the difference with golden zukes and/or cousa. IF YOU ONLY WANT THE VARIETY YOU ORDERED PLEASE SAY SO IN THE COMMENT SECTION. I hope this makes sense. If not, please ask for clarification.

Thanks for your orders and, as always, questions and comments are welcome. I’ll send an email soon about how the online market is set up this year in terms of what, why, and how much we’re growing.
